Instructions for Soothe
Here is a short guide to help you get the best out of Soothe: Joint & Muscle Oil.
1. When to use
Soothe is a topical oil for the temporary relief of pain and swelling (inflammation) in joints. Use it any time you experience stiffness and pain to provide ease and comfort to the affected area.
We like to use it first thing in the morning for stiff hands, or just prior to doing something that you know will be uncomfortable if your joints aren't a little more supple.
2. Lighting the candle
It's just as you would with a normal candle. The only thing to add is that as the level of the candle inside the glass gets lower with use it becomes more difficult to light as it's harder to reach the wick. This is why I would definitely recommend a candle lighter or long matches.
3. Warm your hands
Personally we like to use the heat from the handle to warm our fingers and start to get blood flowing in the extremities of the hands. It takes a few minutes for the heat to penetrate beyond the skin so that your hands are warmed through to the point that you can clench your fists.
Blood flow and heat in the area you are applying the oil to means that it will be absorbed better. Also, it will keep the oil warmer on your body for longer.
A great tip is to use the oil after a bath or a shower, when you are fully warmed through.
4. Pour the oil
After a couple of minutes you will notice a nice pool of melted oil in the candle. You can pour it out directly onto the area that needs attention.
You don't need to extinguish the flame first. You can but we don't because this way you can keep the oil hot for a second application or just continue to enjoy the scent in the background.
This can seem a little daunting at first but the oil isn't hot enough to burn you or cause any discomfort.
In future versions, we intend to add a little spout to the glass so that it's easier to pour.
5. Work it in!
Massage the oil into the affected area and work it into the joints and muscles. Use the friction to generate heat on your skin and to slowly build up movement and blood flow.
Leave the oil to sink in for 5 minutes. Initially it will feel oily on your skin but it will be quickly absorbed leaving you feeling supple and moisturised.
6. Aromatherapy
We love using our candle in the living room, reading or watching tv in the evenings. Even whilst cooking or taking a bath. Just have it on in the background and the room will fill with a lovely scent. The CBD + Sandalwood + Jasmine combination will help you unwind and relax.
7. Burn time
You should expect about 24 hours burn time.
8. When you're done
You should really 'dip the wick'. This means using a wick dipper or anything that is long, thin and inflammable (I just use a butter knife) to push the wick into the oil to put it out. This stops the wick from smoking and smouldering.
When you're done, be sure to prop the wick upright, right away so that it's ready to use the next time. This is best practice but honestly we just blow it out.
You will get some blackening around the inside of the glass where the flame has come into contact with it as you are pouring the oil. You can give this a wipe with a cloth or a tissue if you want to clean it up but we don't tend to bother. We may switch to a black candle holder in future for this reason.
I think that covers everything. Please let me know if there is anything I missed :)
